Druk Iron & Steel was conceived in the year 2002 by Karma Group, one of the pioneer business houses in Bhutan. The project was implemented in three phases. In the first phase TMT grade ingots were manufactured which started commercial production in May 2004. In the second phase Quenched and Tempered bars plant was set up and production commenced from June 2006. Mini structural steel plant was established under third phase that rolled out its production in August 2008.
